Harry Styles has just released his new single “Adore You” alongside a video taking fans into the fantasy land of Eroda.
Welcome to Eroda
The video follows Styles and his friendship with a fish, who becomes his friend in a world where he has been isolated for being different.
A Twitter Frenzy
Yesterday, Harry sent Twitter into a frenzy without even saying a word. If you glanced at Twitter in the afternoon you might have noticed #VisitEroda trending, linked to a completely official and verified Twitter account, @visiteroda. It looks like a perfectly normal tourism account, linked to a website describing the very best accommodation on the island and offering advice on all of the attractions available once you’ve purchased a ticket.
Adore you teaser
It wasn’t until Styles launched a teaser video for “Adore You” that fans started making a connection between the star’s album release and the accounts.
What do we know?
The voyage to Eroda, which took place at midnight last night according to a Facebook event, seems in line with the release of Styles’ new video for “Adore You”, which was teased on Monday.
The video alludes to the fictional island, claiming, “In all the seas, in all the world, there has never been a land quite like the isle of Eroda.”
In the video Styles finds himself lonely and isolated because of his differences while living on the island, where he befriends a fish until he eventually has to set it free. The music video is long, at almost eight minutes, and Styles’ fans will love it.
Not the first time
This isn’t the first time this year Styles has imploded Twitter in the lead up to big announcements this year and fans couldn’t be more excited. Back in October Styles’ fans started to realise the former One Direction star was up to something when billboards appeared first in Australia, then California and eventually across London with his slogan “TPWK” (treat people with kindness).
Fans took to Twitter to share images of the billboards they had spotted, discussing the potential for a new album release, until Styles finally announced the drop.
When are we setting sail?
According to the Facebook event, fans set sail for Eroda around midnight last night, promising, “First departures launch at midnight on the third even day of December.” So bold and so Harry Styles.
What are fans saying?
Following links to the Facebook event and website, fans have been downloading postcard templates and phone backgrounds as well as Twitter and Facebook banners. The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive so far and carrying on from Watermelon Sugar, Styles’ album launch has been nothing short of epic.
