If you’re from Canada, chances are you are familiar with a band called Hedley. The band rose to fame after the lead singer Jacob Hoggard competed on Canadian Idol back in 2004. He might have lost, but that didn’t stop him from gaining plenty of attention. Now, Jacob has a Toronto court hearing for sexual assault charges.
Whether you have kept up with the band in recent years, or not, you may remember back in 2018, when there was plenty of allegations of Jacob committing sexual assault against underage girls coming out.
The more allegations that came out, the more Jacob’s life was essentially flipping upside down. Hedley began having performances cancelled, they were dropped by management, and eventually, the group disbanded due to all the drama.
As time progressed, Jacob was eventually arrested and charged by the police. The charges have to do with three separate instances regarding a girl under the age of sixteen, as well as a woman, all of which allegedly took place in 2016.
Back in May
In May of this year, it was announced that Jacob’s preliminary hearing was set for the 11th and 12th of July, simply meaning that the singer will be in Toronto today and yesterday where the process will get started.
Since the band broke up, things have stayed relatively quiet on Jacob’s part. When all of the allegations were coming out he denied ever seriously harming a woman or engaging in nonconsensual sex but admitted that he had previously acted in a manner that could be considered as objectifying them.
Despite it all, he got married
Despite all the crazy things happening in Jacob’s life, on New Year’s Eve of last year, Jacob got married to Canadain actress and dancer Rebekah Asselstine. The two have remained together over the past few months, but only time will tell if their relationship will be able to stand through all of the upcoming drama and possible jail time for Jacob himself.
