The Met Gala’s red carpet has always been known for some of the most daring fashion statements of the year.
What is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala is a charity benefit that costs thirty thousand dollars ahead to attend. It has a rich history of risque outfits like Lady Gaga who wore not only one but FOUR outfits to this event. Others like Billy Porter went to the extremes by wearing all gold while being carried in on a chaise by six shirtless men.
This years theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and it has resulted in eye-catching bold looks. As stars rolled into the event it became very clear that definitions of ‘camp’ remained an open interpretation.
Lady Gaga has had a long history of extravagant and theatrical looks. Gaga has sparked a social media frenzy over the four outfits she wore to this year’s Met Gala. She arrived in a voluminous pink dress by Brandon Maxwell, later on, she stripped down to a black gown, a pink slip stress, and lastly a crystal bra and panties.
Harry dressed to impress with a flamenco-inspired look designed by Gucci. The British singer wore a black jumpsuit by the label, in one of the most searched for outfits of the night.
Jared Leto went with himself to the Met Gala. Leto arrived with a mannequin of his own head, inspired by Gucci’s Fall-Winter 2018 show, where the models were sent down the runway with heads.
